- Anime
- Pronounced "Ah-Nee-May", Anime is basically Japanese Animation.
- OVA (or OAV)
- Original Video Animation (or Original Animation Video). This is an anime that is released directly to video, rather than showing on TV or in theaters.
- Magical Girl
- Cute teen or pre-teen anime girls who are granted extraordinary powers with which they perform some heroic deeds.
- OP
- Song that is played during the opening credits of an Anime.
- ED
- Song that is played during the ending credits of an Anime.
- BGM
- BackGround Music. This one seems pretty self-explainatory to me...
- Manga
- Japanese comics. This term is also sometimes used to refer to anime.
- EEG
- End the Episode Gun. (okay, so this isn't commonly used, but it should be) This is the magical girl's strongest attack, and is usually reserved for the last few minutes of the episode. After this attack is used, the monster of the episode is killed (or at least sent back where it came from), and all is well once more.
- SD or Super Deformed
- Super Deformed is used to describe an anime character's state when they suddenly shift from their normal appearance to an extemily simplified, much smaller and chubbier version of themselves. This happens a lot in Magic Knight Rayearth and Wedding PEach. Usually SD mode us used to express characters acting in an unusually halarious way, or experiencing a very funny situation. SD is a comedy tool ^_^ That picture of Saint Tail up above is Super Deformed (though not as much as some other characters can get)
- Bishounen
- Ahh, one of my most favorite of anime terms! bishounen means 'beautiful boy' or 'pretty boy'. The term is used to refer to those anime guys that are so good looking that they sparkle. They often look better than the girls do and are often mistaken as being girls. They are slight of build, yet strong and handsome at the same time :) Bishounen guys can usually be spotted by the following characteristics: long flowing hair, lots of bangs or very detailed bangs, eyes that glitter, teeth that give off a lens flare sparkle, noticible eyelashes, or in general a feminine appearance. Sometimes bishounen guys are gay, but not always. Being a bishounen guy is a very cool thing ideed! Examples of bishounen guys can be found all over the place in the anime Fushigi Yuugi. Another bishounen guy would be the prince in the new Cutey Honey series, or Limone in Wedding Peach!
- Genki
- Genki means in general: healthy, well, perky, happy, etc. It can be used to describe someone who is very cheerful or in good spirits. It can also be used when people ask 'how are you?' (genki desu ka?) to reply 'I am fine' (genki desu.)
