I have included this show, Youkoso Yoko, or 'Idol Angel Welcome Yoko' in my magical girls page because there are a lot of similarities in regards to the look and feel of the series to other Magical Girls shows. It contains many of the same themes and traits. Namely, it has a cute, genki young female lead character, an equally cute pet (this one doesn't talk though), and mass-marketable items. Yoko herself seems almost magical because she almost enchants everyone she meets.

This anime is the story of Yoko, a cute, pink haired girl who is leaving behind her old home in the country, and heading to the big city to try to become a famous idol singer. Yoko is travelling alone on a train. I have yet to figure out where her parents are, if she has any, or why they would let her travel alone to a big city at all.On the train yoko meets another cute girl travelling alone. She also has a dream to become famous, so they decide to travel together and become friends.

When Yoko and her friend arrive in the city, they are slapped in the face by reality as they discover that becoming an idol isn't easy. Show business can be a tough business. It's survival of the fittest. They have to deal with things like finding a place to live, finding a manager, making friends, etc etc.

The mood of this show seems to me to be both happy and cute, yet also a bit cynical. It is about the show biz, which isn't always a happy joy joy thing :) However Yoko always seems happy through it all, and there are even 2 cute guys in the show ^_-
