Here is another series I bought even though the cover has fallen victim to the increasingly popular “translucent color tint” that seems to be plaguing Flower Comics titles for the last year or two. Argh. Look at that pink tint! I am getting tired of them doing this, it makes it more difficult for me to recognize covers and tell them apart =_=; I like to see the pretty color artwork! Ahh well. At any rate, this is a nice collection of 4 short stories. 3 of the stories are connected to each other, The basic premis reminds me a bit of Iinchou no Himegoto, by AIKAWA Saki, but I think the hero here is somewhat nicer.

This series starts off with our heroine, high school girl Chisa, already having nabbed the school prince for her boyfriend. Woo hoo! No pining for the prince in this series, she already has him! His name is KAGUYA Ryou-kun, and (as a school prince should be,) he is handsome, charming, smart, and popular. He is also attentive, walking her home from school, and affectionate. Chisa is a lucky girl!

But naturally there must be a drawback, or we wouldn’t have much of a story here. And sure enough, one day Chisa discovers the slight flaw in her otherwise perfect boyfriend — his family. Or, should I say, his “Family”. You see, Ryou-kun turns out to be the son of an infamous yakuza clan. Oh no! Chisa had followed Ryou-kun home so she could give him an important paper he had forgotten. She discovers his house to be filled with large menacing gangsters, who all seem to be calling Ryou ‘Young Master’!

Yes, this is Ryou-kun’s dark secret that he hasn’t told anyone at school. Chisa is intimidated at first, but Ryou is so cute and affectionate, that she is soon won over by him, and it doesn’t matter what kind of family he comes from! Unfortunately, some members of the yakuza world aren’t too thrilled about Chisa’s presence, and are willing to do what it takes to get rid of her. For good! Does Chisa have what it takes to be a yakuza girl?

The first two stories in this book follow the adventures of Chisa and Ryou-kun as they face many dangerous situations. The third story centers around Saburouta, one of Ryou-kun’s bodyguards. In the first two stories, he is shown with a rather distinctive facial scar. In this story, we get to step back in time a few years and see how he obtained the scar. It revolves around his meeting Saaya-chan, a small, cute, 3rd year high school girl (who looks like a middle-school student). One day, Saburouta rescues Saaya from some street thugs, and she falls for him right away. Saaya is not the type to give up, so discovering Saburouta’s line of work and meeting his yakusa associates does not bother her. Plus, the young Ryou-kun (who is in early elementary school during this time) really likes Saaya! She fits right in! But the yakuza world is dangerous, and Saaya may not be safe after all.

The last story is about a perfect princess of a girl named Ai-chan. Every day, she spends hours fixing her hair, applying her make-up, and painting her nails. She looks sweet and feminine, and very princess-like. What she wants most is a prince, naturally. But Ai has a problem similar to Ryou-kun. Her family. In this case, they aren’t yakuza, but they are all very rough motorcycle gang types. They just don’t understand Ai-chan. But one day, Ai-chan literally runs into her perfect prince of a guy. His name is Sousuke, and he seems to really like Ai-chan. But will her idealistic dreams and rough family ruin everything?

This is a silly and sweet volume. The art is very clean and delicate. Like many recent authors, this one has a lot of fun playing around with the occasional melodramatic 70’s shoujo manga reaction shots and exaggerated responses to things. It is so much fun!
