The Kaikan Phrase anime ran for a whopping 44 episodes (quite long these days of 13 and 26 -episode series), and was based on the manga of the same name by Mayu Shinjo. However the anime bears little resemblance to the manga. While the manga focused on the relationship between Sakuya and Aine and all the people trying to break them apart, the anime focuses more on the band Λucifer, and their rise from nothing to fame. Aine, a central character in the manga, does not show up until halfway through the series! I think it was a good idea to focus more on the band instead of following the manga plotline. While a lot of fun, I don't think the manga plot could have sustained an anime series for very long. It's also nice to see more focus on the other members of Λucifer besides Sakuya.
When the anime premiered, the first opening song was "Survival", by GLAY. Howver a real-life band called Λucifer was formed to tie-in with the anime and to perform almost all the other songs in the series. Some of the songs performed by the 'real' Λucifer contain lyrics created in the manga by Mayu Shinjo. Later on, some 'real' Λucifer song lyrics were in return, used in the manga. After "Survival," The rest of the Kaikan Phrase opening songs were sung by Λucifer. I will construct a separate section about the real band soon!
